1960s 10K Birthstone Ring, July Birthstone Ring, January Birthstone Ring, Lab Created Ruby, Lab Created Red Sapphire, Vintage Ring, Sz 6.25

This is an amazing July or January Birthstone Ring from Circa 1960s. The gem is round and is approximately 7+ Carats in size (14mm in diameter). This ring has a mounting that is a beautiful basket setting that has lovely open metalwork on the sides and a Buttercup Setting that cradles the gem beautifully when viewing the ring from the top down.

The gem in this ring is really quite unusual. It registers as a sapphire on a presidium tester, however the Gemology Company (ICA) for colored gems, states that this gem must be deemed a Ruby because of the color. Below is the definition of what they state:

Red sapphire is corundum, just like a ruby only the mineral that makes it red is iron, titanium, and chromium impurities, while rubies are red due to chromium. Red sapphires are rare and usually cleaner with less inclusions and more sparkling than rubies. This red sapphire is amazing in clarity and scintillation. All other corundum is sapphire. On the other hand, the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) considers any red corundum gemstone, regardless of depth or intensity, a ruby. ... Gem quality rubies are rare, much rarer than diamonds.

The color of this gem is a very deep, rich red that can look like a wonderful Garnet or a Ruby in the sunlight. This is a lab created gem that is of very high quality. This ring was known as a Birthstone Ring in the 1960s. It can certainly be a July or January birthstone ring without issue.
